Izhora Plants shipped the wrench of the main nuclear reactor for the second stage of the Tianwan nuclear power plant, which is constructed in China

Izhora plants, the part of OMZ Group, have completed the manufacture and shipped the wrench of the main connector reactor vessel for the third and fourth power units of the Tianwan nuclear power plant.
Electrohydraulic wrench is a joint development of Izhora Plants and the German company Siempelkamp Tensioning Systems (STS). It is designed for hydraulic tightening or loosening at the same time all the pins on the flange of the reactor pressure vessel during refueling, routine inspections and preventative maintenance.

The use of wrenches of this type provides the tightness of the flange connection at all operating conditions and reduces sealing time and decompression of the connector. This significantly reduces the duration of shutdowns and allows to achieve significant savings due to more rapid achievement of operational power of the nuclear unit.

Weight of the wrench - 46 tons, the outer diameter of the support ring - about 5 meters, the maximum force developed by the wrench when drawing each stud - 8000 kN. Estimated lifetime of wrench parts under heavy loading is 50 years at the terms of replacement of quickly wearing parts.

Under the contract, signed in 2010, Izhora Plants manufacture equipment of the first loop with the reactor VVER-1000 for the third and fourth power units of Tianwan NPP, which is under construction now. VVER-1000 reactors for the third and fourth nuclear power units have already been shipped to the customer.
